About the Program

Philosophy is a questioning science that grapples with issues of a general and fundamental nature. Examples of such questions include: What is real?; What is truth?; Under which conditions can we claim to know something (rather than simply believing that we know it)?; Do we, as people, have free will?; What constitutes good behaviour and how does it differ from behaviour that is wrong, unjust, immoral, and so on?; What obligations do we have towards other people?; What are natural laws?; How do explanations in individual disciplines work? The course content includes history of philosophy, integration of philosophical research and teaching, practical philosophy (with seminars on ethics as well as political, legal and social philosophy), and theoretical philosophy (with seminars on logic, metaphysics, epistemology and the philosophy of science).
