About the Program

The Master's program in Philosophy is a research-oriented program with a focus on Philosophy of the Social. It offers a high-level overview of the questions and contextual relationships of this discipline and its methods. In-depth specialist knowledge is imparted in the specialization areas of social phenomenology, social epistemology, and social ethics. Individual focus can be set through two modules. Additionally, by choosing two complementary modules from a spectrum of humanities, cultural and social science subjects (including sociology, political science, history, ancient studies, and educational sciences), additional expertise and competencies are acquired that meaningfully complement the study of philosophy with a focus on social philosophy. The four-semester study is divided into modules. In the first two semesters, one core module in each of the three specialization areas of social phenomenology, epistemology, and ethics must be completed. In the first and third semesters, two focus modules with in-depth studies in the three areas must be chosen. The program aims not only at further scientific qualification within the framework of a doctorate but also enables careers in the social field (policy advice, journalism, in-company training, adult education, associations, health insurance, etc.).
