About the Program

The Master of Arts in Peace Education is a program that addresses global threats to peace that impact social cohesion at all levels. Drawing on conceptual foundations and methodologies of peace-related scientific research, Peace Education supports the capacity of individuals, groups, and societies to bring about peace. As an interdisciplinary field, it encompasses Peace and Human Rights Education and Democracy Education, aiming to strengthen democracy, promote diversity, prevent violence, and establish models for transforming conflict situations. The program has been developed by the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg in conjunction with its own Peace Institute. It is a consecutive, practice-oriented, 3-semester, full-time program (90 credit points). Main topics include peace and human rights education in the 21st century, interdisciplinary peace and conflict research, intercultural and international dimensions of peace education, civil conflict transformation, violence prevention, mediation, and theological and philosophical interpretations.
