The Musicology program covers the history of music in its social and cultural-historical facets from the Middle Ages to the present, with a focus on Europe and the Baltic Sea region. It includes organology, notation, harmony, work analysis and interpretation, social, cultural, economic and religious functions of music, various concepts of music and understandings of music in their local, regional and global contexts, music aesthetics and intermedial connections of music with other arts, working methods and methods of music historiography, sociology and ethnology, forms of music mediation to broad audiences, cultural management (basics), language and writing skills for different professionally relevant text types, and deepening of one's own musical practice in choir, orchestra or big band as well as through practical music lessons.
