Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The minor in Mongolian consists of three language modules (Mongolian I-III). Students learn modern Mongolian (Chalcha) from the first semester with practice- and application-oriented training. They acquire skills in listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing, and intercultural communication. In the third semester, they are introduced to the classical Mongolian script. Students practice the use of language-learning aids and work through contrastive examples. The Department of Oriental and Asian Studies maintains a balance between pragmatic/communicative competence and linguistic fundamentals. Students acquire culturally sensitized, communicative and media-relevant competencies which enable them to understand phenomena and dynamics in the Mongolian cultural area. This subject must be combined with a second subject. Possible career paths include intercultural communication, international development cooperation, peace and conflict research, international educational work, politics, culture management, tourism, journalism, and academia.
