About the Program

The Midwifery Science degree programme prepares students for the complex practical and theoretical requirements of the midwifery profession. It teaches fundamentals of evidence-based midwifery and midwifery research. The program includes accompanying and reflection seminars to develop psychosocial skills, which are important as midwives accompany a personal, emotional and intimate phase of women's lives. The course covers topics of midwifery science, women's health, anatomy, physiology, professional knowledge, quality management, psychology and ethics. Students must conclude a contract with a cooperation clinic before beginning the course, which ensures practical training and pays a training allowance. Practical assignments also take place with freelance midwives or in birth centers. The program is structured with foundation courses teaching basics of science and medicine, advanced studies focusing on practical midwifery work, and concludes with a bachelor's thesis requiring independent scientific work on a question relevant to midwifery science.
