About the Program

The objective of the four-year "Middle Eastern Studies (international)" Bachelor's program is to acquire broad fundamental knowledge of the countries of the Near and Middle East and to acquire expertise in one or more of the central trade or cultural languages of this region, supplemented by a one-year stay abroad in the region. Students will acquire a historical overview that grants them access to the region, in all of its diversity and dynamism, and qualifies them to allocate social, political and cultural processes and dynamics to greater contexts. This applies both for the historical depth of the 5,000-year cultural history and to present circumstances. Particularly as a result of a abroad, students will acquire internationality, intercultural expertise, linguistic and regional expertise. The program includes major topics in Politics of the Near and Middle East and Economy of the Near and Middle East. Professional opportunities for graduates can be found in cultural mediation, intercultural training, cultural and scientific management, foundation work, political and entrepreneurial consulting, adult education, migration work, public service, media, tourism, language instruction, and more.
