About the Program

Marine Biology belongs to the most attractive and fascinating disciplines within the natural sciences. It is also one of the most diverse disciplines. More than 70% of the Earth's surface are covered by oceans, and they play a crucial role especially for our climate. Only in the last 50 to 100 years the scientific and technological means have been developed to explore and study this vast ecosystem in detail. Marine biological research is of global socio-economic and political relevance. The program is structured in 4 terms: The 1st Term builds theoretical background and introduces concepts of Marine Biology and related disciplines. The 2nd Term offers elective courses covering various topics and methods, with practical classes and field trips. The 3rd Term allows students to conduct research projects with partner institutions. The 4th Term is dedicated to the Master Thesis.
