About the Program

The English Studies degree program covers the study of the language, literature and culture of English-speaking countries. Students receive a solid overview of both older and modern English-language literature and culture and also explore current topics from the areas of structural and applied linguistics. The program has an interdisciplinary orientation, including questions from history, philosophy, politics and media studies. It focuses geographically on the UK, North America and the postcolonial world. In addition to knowledge-based courses, it offers in-depth language practice modules. In year two, students can choose advanced modules to prioritize individual focus areas with profiles in either English linguistics and communications, North American studies, or British and postcolonial literary and cultural studies. The major program consists of 17 modules plus a BA thesis, equaling 120 CP, and includes a mandatory Professional Development module (internship) that can be completed at any point during the studies. This subject must be combined with a second subject.
