About the Program

The Liberal Arts & Sciences program began in the winter semester of 2023/24. It aims to train engaged generalists who can act responsibly and think from multiple perspectives. Students engage with current topics from humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medical perspectives, exploring their historical depth and societal breadth. A special feature of the program is the integration of creative working methods and artistic research methodologies. Students can choose from two interdisciplinary majors that span humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine. Both majors integrate perspectives from philosophy, literature and theater studies, cultural studies, sociology, political science, and economics. Faculty and students work together on fundamental questions of the Anthropocene. The program collaborates with other faculties at the University of Hamburg, as well as with the university's excellence clusters, other higher education institutions, and the city's arts, cultural, and media organizations.
