Master of Education (M.Ed.)

About the Program

The four-semester Master of Education program for Gymnasium Teaching (Transition) aims at teaching in gymnasiums and comprehensive schools, preferably with upper secondary level. It is designed for applicants who wish to pursue a teaching degree with music as a double subject after their instrumental/vocal pedagogical or artistic studies. It provides the foundation and eligibility for the teaching internship (Referendariat). The program focuses on current tasks of music education in the school environment. The artistic-practical training is deepened with a special focus on applied piano playing and school music practice. In-depth modules convey teaching-related music practical competencies that were not acquired in previous studies. Several school internships are central components of the master's program, conducted at local schools. Students can test themselves in teaching practice in secondary levels I and II and are individually guided and intensively prepared for the teaching profession. In the modules of Educational Science and Music Pedagogy, students comprehensively engage with current scientific topics and acquire well-founded competencies for the school work field.
