About the Program

This is a teaching degree program for History at high schools (Gymnasien). Students acquire the scientific, didactic, and practical prerequisites for teaching History. The program covers: foundations of historical scientific work; knowledge of the most important sources, questions, problems, and methodological approaches in historical science; basic knowledge of selected central themes of antiquity, pre-modern period (Middle Ages and Early Modern Period), and the modern period; advanced knowledge in one of the two major epochs (pre-modern including antiquity or modern); and basic theories of history didactics and their relevance to teaching. The program can be chosen as Subject I (95 credit points) or Subject II (90 credit points) and must be combined with another teaching subject.
