About the Program

The master's degree in teacher training in special needs education (MEd) enables students to pursue the teaching subjects taken during the bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, English, German, French, geography, history, Protestant religion, mathematics, music, physics, social sciences, Spanish, sport, Turkish, visual arts, or work studies / technology in greater depth. Students also take the special needs education module, enabling them to focus on one of the following seven specialist areas: learning difficulties, speech difficulties, emotional and social development, physical and motor skills development, intellectual development, hearing impairment, or visual impairment. The master's phase includes a six-month core placement. The program qualifies students for a career in teaching at special needs and comprehensive inclusive schools. Before taking up employment as teachers, graduates must complete the teaching practice period (Vorbereitungsdienst), which lasts eighteen months in Hamburg and concludes with the state examination (Staatsexamen).
