The MA in Latin American Studies is an interdisciplinary program bringing together the disciplines of ethnology, geography, history, political science, and Romance studies. Throughout the program in Hamburg and during the third semester spent abroad, students develop their Spanish and Portuguese language skills and acquire an in-depth knowledge of both Latin America and current research on the region. By the end of the program students should be in a position to apply the methods used within the disciplines independently in order to evaluate complex issues in current research and produce academic knowledge.

The degree program includes a compulsory semester abroad at a partner university in Latin America, Spain, or Portugal during the third semester.
