About the Program

This is a teaching degree program for Latin at high schools (Gymnasien). The program provides students with important competencies for working as a Latin teacher at a high school. By the end of the studies, students will have mastered the Latin language both actively and passively in terms of grammar and style, understand Roman literature and its historical development up to late antiquity in the context of ancient culture, comprehend the role model function of the Romans for European intellectual history, be able to analyze and interpret literary texts under genre and formal historical aspects, know the content and methodological questions and working techniques of the subject, have an in-depth insight into the culture, religion and history of Greco-Roman antiquity, know how modern Latin teaching works, and be able to read, translate and summarize Greek texts in the original if essential for the interpretation of Latin literature.
