Klassische Archaologie [Classical Archaeology]Classical Archaeology

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The Bachelor's program in Classical Archaeology deals with the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean region as part of historical and cultural studies. The focus is on Greek and Roman culture, for which written source material is available in addition to archaeological finds and evidence, as well as their contacts with predecessor and neighboring cultures. Methodologically, the subject forms an interface between general archaeological, historical, cultural and art-scientific approaches. The aim of the Bachelor's program is to impart fundamental factual and methodological competence for the (re)construction of ancient living environments on the basis of archaeological monuments and findings. The study of antiquity contributes to developing a critical awareness of the historical foundations of cultures and to reflecting on contemporary socio-cultural contexts in their historical dimension.
