Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

About the Program

The Italian Bachelor of Education program prepares students to become teachers of Italian at gymnasiums (secondary schools). The program focuses on Italian language, literature, culture, and history, as well as teaching methods. Students learn how to engage future pupils with the Italian language and culture. The curriculum includes language practice (grammar, phonetics, translation, text editing, oral communication), literary studies (literary history, epochs and genres from the Middle Ages to modern times), linguistics (structures and usage patterns of the Italian language), cultural studies, and subject didactics. The program requires at least one semester abroad in Italy. Students complete three three-week internships at schools to gain practical experience. The degree qualifies graduates to pursue a Master of Education and subsequently enter the teaching profession, but also opens doors to other career paths such as language teaching in adult education, translation, academic research, public service, media and public relations, cultural institutions, international relations, and business.
