About the Program

The Bachelor's degree course in Islamic Theology at Osnabrück University is the first in Germany to offer the opportunity to study the Muslim religion academically. The central contents of the course are the basic beliefs of Islam, Quran science and the prophetic tradition as well as Islamic jurisprudence and its methodology. In addition, classical Arabic and didactic and interreligious skills are taught. Further focal points are comparative studies (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) as well as the theoretical and empirical analysis of Islam in Germany and Europe in a historical and modern context. Students are required to complete a two- to four-week internship during their studies.
