International Organisations and Crisis Management

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's degree International Organisations and Crisis Management is the only programme in Germany and one of very few in Europe that focuses on three key areas: 1) the goals, tasks, structures, cultures and norms of international governmental and non-governmental organisations; 2) the possibilities and limits of international crisis management, including settlement of violent conflicts and governance of issues such as pandemics, migration flows, natural disasters and financial crises; 3) whether and how international organisations can overcome these crises, what problems of effectiveness and legitimacy may arise, and how this sometimes plunges international organisations into crises themselves. The programme comprises a Disciplinary Core Track with compulsory courses, a practitioner's seminar, a study trip to international organisations and a summer school on crisis management. The Supplementary Track includes Interdisciplinary Studies and Language Studies. The third semester takes place at a partner university with a two-month internship, and the fourth semester is reserved for the Master's thesis.
