About the Program

The research-oriented Master's program in Integrative Zoology offers students a broad overview of the content and concepts of modern, organism-oriented zoology through the integration of subdisciplines such as morphology and systematics, developmental genetics, physiology, neurobiology, sensory ecology, and bionics. The focus is on the species and diversity of animal organisms, their functioning in their environment, physiological and developmental processes, and the underlying evolutionary relationships. The program uses various modern methods including imaging techniques with fluorescence, laser scanning and electron microscopy, micro-CT for 3D reconstruction of animal structures, life imaging of developmental and movement processes, behavioral analyses, robotics, gene expression and gene function analyses. Graduates are qualified for doctoral studies in various subfields of zoology and for work in scientific, application-oriented, public and private institutions such as zoological collections, museums, aquariums, zoos, fisheries research institutions, diagnostic and genetics laboratories, as well as administrative positions in environmental or nature conservation offices.
