About the Program

INSTEP is a programme for incoming and prospective international students at the University of Oldenburg. Based on students’ needs, INSTEP provides assistance to international students in preparing for their studies and during their first semesters in Oldenburg. INSTEP offers a variety of workshops and preparatory courses that international students as well as applicants can attend. It is designed to improve the seamless transition for international students from preparatory German language courses—upon successful completion of the DSH exam (German language examination for university entrance)—to their respective degree programmes. It is further aimed at improving international students’ academic success in degree programmes both in German and English.  INSTEP offers: Language courses: intensive, preparatory German courses (level B1 and above) before starting the degree programme as well as German or English courses during the programme Courses on academic methods: Workshops and seminars on research methods and academic writing Workshops on topics such as developing academic and intercultural skills Subject-specific preparation: bridging and preparatory courses, subject-specific advisory services, buddy programmes offered by the student association Assistance and support: General academic assistance, orientation, advice on topics such as housing, finances, starting your degree programme and much more Mentoring assistance for international students: language mentoring during study preparation (Deutsch PLUS) and intercultural support during the degree programme ("Orientierung PLUS").
