About the Program

Infection Biology is a two-year Master's program in the field of life sciences. It is a joint program of the University of Lübeck and the Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Lung Center. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach, encompassing microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology, to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills necessary to combat infectious diseases in humans and animals. Students have access to state-of-the-art laboratories, modern research facilities, and opportunities for collaboration with leading institutions and companies worldwide. The program focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms of pathogens, exploring host-pathogen interactions, developing novel therapeutics, and implementing public health strategies. Northern Germany and the Baltic states are home to various infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, Lyme disease, and emerging viral infections. The program prepares students for careers in science, clinical and pharmaceutical research and development, higher education, diagnostics, monitoring and epidemiology of infectious diseases, and health policy. For a career in science or in a company, the Master's degree should be supplemented with a doctoral thesis.
