Master of Education (M.Ed.)

About the Program

The Master of Education (MEd) in History follows the Bachelor of Education (BEd) and complements teacher education for Lehramt Gymnasium. After earning the MEd, graduates can be admitted to the teacher traineeship ("Referendariat"). The program covers history from antiquity to the Middle Ages through to modern and contemporary history, linking different historical epochs with region-specific and thematic focus areas. Emphasis is placed on topics such as world history, economic history, Eastern European history, history of science, and media history. Students learn to handle various forms of historical sources in small seminar groups. The curriculum includes subject-related content as well as classes in didactics and education. The master's programme takes four semesters to complete with a total of 120 ECTS credits required.
