Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

About the Program

The History program at JGU focuses on understanding history and its impact on current generations. Students study human achievements and failures across different epochs and regions - from antiquity to contemporary history, from the Rhine Valley to Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. As future history teachers, students primarily work with texts in the form of sources and academic literature. They learn how human artifacts from past times can provide insights into fundamental patterns and motivations of human action, political and economic structures, and the social fabric of people over time. The program includes fachdidactic training on how to teach history in an appealing and motivating way to students. The curriculum consists of three thematic blocks: an introductory module with fundamentals, theories and methods of historical science; epoch modules on Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Contemporary History; and subject didactics on the prerequisites for historical learning in schools.
