History and the Public

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The consecutive Master's degree course "History and the Public Sphere" combines in-depth study of historical contexts with an introduction to application-oriented, practical and innovative working methods in the historical sciences. In four semesters, it qualifies you for numerous professional fields at the university, in research and science management, but also for non-university history work in museums, archives, research offices and libraries, in history marketing and editing, in adult education and heritage conservation. The program is divided into two study areas: the research-oriented subject-thematic module area A dealing with essential dimensions of society/culture and corresponding levels of access to history from antiquity to immediate contemporary history, and the methodological-practical module area B teaching professional skills in the written and oral presentation and communication of historical research in various media contexts and genres. A special feature is a planned semester abroad in the second year of study.
