About the Program

The Greek (Griechisch) program for teaching at gymnasiums aims to enable students to understand the language and literature of the Greeks in the context of ancient culture and to comprehend the development of the Greek language and literature in antiquity. The primary goal is to appropriately grasp and interpret the content, function, and forms of ancient literary works in Greek. The study program provides content and methodological knowledge, opens interpretative access to linguistic and literary specialties, and enables students to independently address scientific problems and prepare scientific papers. It also allows students to develop criteria for selecting material in school practice and learn methods for its teaching. The program is part of the teacher training for gymnasiums, making up about one-third of the total studies, and must be combined with a second subject.
