About the Program

The Master's program "Geschichte, Sprachen und Kulturen des Vorderen Orients" (History, Languages and Cultures of the Middle East) is fundamentally research-oriented and also provides knowledge with application and professional relevance. The program offers in-depth knowledge in the profiles of Iranian Studies, Islamic Studies, or Turkology in particularly relevant research and application fields. In common cross-sectional modules, students of all profiles are taught the general necessary methodological foundations for later professional practice, consulting, or research. The content-specific profile modules qualify students at a high scientific level in their chosen profile. Students choose one of the three profiles at the beginning of their studies. The program includes various areas: specialized modules depending on the chosen profile (Iranian Studies, Islamic Studies, or Turkology), cross-sectional modules, language and language practice (Persian, Arabic, or Turkish), specialized elective area, and a Master's thesis in the fourth semester.
