About the Program

For over 20 years, the University of Vechta (Germany) has been training gerontologists who learn how individuals and societies can create optimal conditions for a high quality of life in old age in the long term. The degree programme covers study contents from many areas (health sciences, sociology, psychology, law and economics), both application-orientated and research-orientated. The programme includes study contents such as introduction to gerontology, fundamentals and theories of ageing, social gerontology, public health, health, care, psychological gerontology, civil law aspects of gerontology, social law aspects of gerontology, research methods, statistics, participatory and moderation methods, practical module (8 weeks), and bachelor thesis and colloquium. Career opportunities for gerontologists include management tasks in care, nursing and counselling facilities, activities in politics, in the healthcare system and welfare associations, in human resources departments, in municipal elderly care and social planning, with manufacturers and service providers whose target group is people in the second half of life.
