About the Program
German studies as a discipline of the humanities researches, documents and communicates the German language and literature in its historical and contemporary manifestations. Modern German studies is regarded as a combination of three sub-disciplines: linguistics, older literary studies (medieval studies) and more recent literary studies of German. At Osnabrück University, the subject is divided into the areas of literature and linguistics and covers the entire spectrum of German literature and language. Focal points include epochs of German literature and genre theory, literature for children and young people, text interpretation, grammatical structures of German, orthography, first and second language acquisition, medieval and early modern literature.
