Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

Gender Studies is a dual-subject Bachelor's programme that can be taken as a primary or secondary dual subject (60 ECTS credits) or as a Minor (30 ECTS credits) combined with a Major. The programme explores how gender divisions affect identity, perception, and social structures. It examines the role of categories such as age, ethnicity, sexuality, and social position, as well as mechanisms of domination and power. The University of Oldenburg's approach is oriented towards cultural studies, combining gender research with cultural theory. Students learn to analyze privilege and marginalization based on gender concepts from different cultural, national, and global contexts. The programme includes equality and anti-discrimination policies, social movements, and international perspectives. Students develop analytical and intercultural competencies to work with transdisciplinary issues in various cultural fields and have the opportunity to test these skills in an internship. Key perspectives include politics of representation, transculturalism, queer theory, gender-specific education processes, and the connection between theory and practice in developing gender competence.
