Due to France's colonial expansion, it is present on all continents, and Francophonie is an association of over 50 countries that maintain a special connection to the French language. The study of French focuses on the language and literature of France and the French-speaking world. It describes the French language in its historical development and as a contemporary language system. It explores the literatures of the French-speaking world and imparts knowledge, particularly about the historically determined sociocultural realities in Francophone countries, within the framework of cultural studies.
