About the Program

The French studies program for teaching at gymnasiums aims to enable students to conduct methodologically and substantively sound analyses of the language, literature, and culture of France and the French-speaking world. Students receive the tools to competently meet future challenges as teachers. They will be able to confidently overview relevant linguistic and cultural phenomena and convey their knowledge and skills to students according to respective requirements. The program focuses on not only learning the language but also understanding the literature and culture of the country. Good language skills and interest in cultural phenomena are prerequisites for academic engagement. The program includes linguistics, literary studies, cultural studies, language practice, and subject didactics. A three-month study-related stay abroad is required.
