About the Program

Francoromance Studies comprise academic studies of the languages, literatures and cultures of French-speaking countries. Besides France, these include several other countries spread over four continents, where French is the official language, language of communication, or spoken by an important minority. The program imparts foundation knowledge in the disciplines of linguistics, literary science and area studies. The main focus of the program lies on the French language, including its different national and regional variants, past and present French language and literatures, as well as the history and cultures of France and the Francophone countries. Furthermore, French writing and spoken language skills are systematically trained in special language courses, which comprise approximately one quarter of the studies.
