About the Program

The Franco-German Studies program is a binational bachelor's degree program offered in cooperation with the Université de Lorraine in Metz. It provides an interdisciplinary study program for motivated students with very good French language skills, qualifying them for a broad professional spectrum both domestically and abroad. The program aims to train graduates with high German and French language competence and profound knowledge of the culture, history, and politics of Germany and France, as well as the integration of both countries in the European integration process and global contexts. Students learn and work in a small German-French group, spending the first year at their respective home university in Germany or France, the second year together at the Université de Lorraine in Metz, and the third year at Saarland University in Saarbrücken. The program is supported by the Franco-German University (DFH). Content focuses include: language, culture and society of Germany and France and the francophone world; theories and methods of cultural studies; cultural and social analysis using various media; information and communication science; Franco-German cultural and political history; and political science methods and analyses of Franco-German policy fields. A mandatory internship in the neighboring country is an integral part of the program.
