European Studies Politics – Law – Society

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The Bachelor's program 'European Studies: Politics - Law - Society' focuses on contemporary Europe as a unique political construct where politics takes place simultaneously at the national, regional, and supranational EU levels. The study examines this multi-level system and the interrelationship between nation-states and the European Union, as well as its effects on European societies. The program has a strong social science component, primarily in political science and sociology, and provides insights into European history, geography, and culture. Using social science theories and methods, students learn to analyze how politics, law, and society evolve. The interdisciplinary core area deals with European contexts, development processes, current trends, and perspectives on Europe. Historical, legal, cultural, and linguistic basic knowledge enables students to independently and critically examine and classify complex European issues. The program requires 180 credit points (CP) and includes a core area (102 CP), a specialization in Politics-Law-Society (60 CP), and an elective area (18 CP). The fifth semester is planned for a study abroad experience, which can be replaced by an internship abroad or a European research project.
