European Literatures and Media in a Global Context

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The 'European Literatures and Media in a Global Context' program is designed for students interested in understanding literature, film, theater, and other art forms in their cultural contexts. This interdisciplinary study focuses on various forms of cultural exchange in Europe and countries with traces of European languages, literatures, and cultures. The program emphasizes mutual exchange and comparison, providing broad literary and media competence and skills in analyzing, commenting on, and interpreting aesthetic works. Students learn to recognize, articulate, and question artworks in their cultural and media contexts, addressing the current need for critical distance and judgment. The core curriculum includes Comparative Literature as a mandatory subject and two elective subjects from: German Literary Studies, English Literature and Cultural Studies, French Literature and Culture, Italian Literature and Culture, Art History, or Spanish Literature and Culture. A practical component is integrated into the elective subjects, which may include internships (including abroad), professional experience, or courses from the BA optional areas. The final thesis can be written in either the mandatory subject or one of the two elective subjects.
