About the Program

In consideration of current events, the historical dimensions of the economy are gaining ever-increasing importance. The European Economic and Social History master's program is dedicated to this development and connects the systematic approach to the economic sciences with the historical approach of historical studies. With a highly theoretical-analytical claim, it has the goal of imparting the economic and social development and interdependencies with politics, technology and institutions on the levels of actors, structures and processes. Furthermore, a high level of practical content is also possible – a six-month internship can be integrated into the study program's plan – which enables students not only to explore future professional fields, but to also have contact with potential employers. The program imparts knowledge of economic and societal revolutions in antiquity, the Middle Ages and the modern period. It can be studied with both a research and practical orientation, preparing students for both scholarly as well as application-based careers.
