About the Program

English Studies is offered as a major or minor as part of the two-subject Bachelor's degree. The program focuses on studying the past and present of the English language and anglophone literature in the context of culture and society. Study contents include Introduction to Literary and Cultural Studies, Linguistic Foundations, Language Skills, Mediating Languages and Cultures, Advanced Language Skills, Advanced Literary and Cultural Studies, and Language and Cultural Contexts. If chosen as a major or with the aim of becoming a teacher, a three-month stay abroad is compulsory. The teaching degree program consists of two subjects (major and minor), educational sciences, interdisciplinary profile courses, school internships, and a final thesis module. For elementary, secondary, and comprehensive schools, the major subject comprises 51 credit points and the minor subject 45 credit points. For high schools (Gymnasium), the major subject comprises 90 credit points and the minor subject 45 credit points.
