About the Program

The "Master's Programme in English and American Studies" is an exclusively English-taught, two-year MA programme focussing on the three core areas of literature, linguistics and cultural studies. The program imparts in-depth knowledge of English and American literary and cultural history, as well as English linguistics and language history. It develops advanced skills in academic literary analysis, competence in independent linguistic analysis of texts and text collections, in-depth knowledge of theoretical debates and the critical application of theoretical concepts to independently chosen research topics, the ability to present one's own findings with consideration of the audience, and the ability to integrate knowledge and engage complexity. The program offers two branches of study: a regular track and a European Joint Master's Programme track.
