About the Program

This is a teaching degree program in German (Deutsch) for high school teachers (Lehramt an Gymnasien). The program combines specialized German language and literature studies with pedagogical training. The academic training in German is conducted together with Bachelor's and Master's students in German Studies and covers the entire breadth of the field: Old Germanic studies, literary studies, and linguistics. In addition to 'classic' seminars in language, literature, and media didactics, block seminars have been established where integrated work is done on a wide range of topics - from Harry Potter, Tintenherz or Tschick to Faust, Hamlet or Nathan. Students choose German as either their first subject (95 credit points) or second subject (90 credit points), which can be combined with any other teaching subject. The program includes both subject-specific content and general educational components.
