About the Program

This seminar 'Der Raum und das Werk' (The Space and the Work) examines the material space surrounding artistic production in its historical and contemporary context: as a place where art becomes visible under specific conditions and finds its purpose, and in terms of its possibilities to create 'atmosphere' through light, sound, and other forms of staging. The course introduces central spatial theories and provides an overview of art spaces in historical change. Artistic positions that focus on space within the work itself are analyzed as examples. Individual work discussions complement the theoretical framework, examining students' works from a curatorial perspective to provide suggestions for possible content deepening or contextualization. The course includes an excursion to Berlin with studio and exhibition visits, focusing on space as a formative impulse in artwork or exhibition concepts.
