About the Program

The Master's programme in Cultural Studies at the University of Vechta examines cultural change as the result of human action, thought and perception. It explores how different values, ideas and lifestyles develop, change and stabilize, considering factors like social environment, nation, ethnicity and gender. The program uses interdisciplinary perspectives and digital methods. Cultural studies explores the social, material, narrative and symbolic dimensions of cultures with their everyday practices and lifestyles, ways of thinking and acting, values, forms of knowledge and symbol systems. The Master's programme focuses on cultural processes, social inequality, gender differences, cultural identity and alterity, and cultural memory. After an introductory phase, students choose individual specializations in areas like globalization, cultural change discourses, cultures of remembrance, digital cultural studies, and cultural archives. A unique feature is the integration of Digital Humanities, strengthening both content-related and methodological skills. The program includes a ten-week internship that can be completed abroad and designed to be application-oriented or research-oriented.
