Cultural Education in Schools Master

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

About the Program

The Continuing Education Master's program in Cultural Education in Schools (KuBiS) promotes aesthetic research and learning in the education of children and youth, development of school culture, design of all-day schooling, profile development of schools in the area of cultural education, and opening schools to extracurricular fields. The program enables teachers for leadership tasks, school principals for developing interprofessional collaboration, artists as partners in development processes at schools, and mediators in cultural institutions for cooperation with schools. It qualifies participants in the context of cultural pedagogical work at schools, in the area of interface management, and with regard to scientific reflection on pedagogical, cultural and aesthetic practice. The program is based on the belief that forms of engagement with the world that touch us 'with skin and hair', that 'get under the skin', that are 'hands-on' or that 'set us in motion' are particularly suitable for engaging with people, things, and learning objects and for discovering new personal ways of accessing and shaping the world. The principles of aesthetic-artistic education can not only positively support the learning and development paths of children and adolescents but also contribute to sustainable changes in the school system - for example, with regard to questions of integration, the development of sensitivity, self-confidence and self-determination, the rhythmization and design of interaction in everyday school life, and ethical responsibility. The goal of the continuing education master's program is to strengthen confidence in one's own aesthetic and artistic abilities, to make the educational potentials of aesthetic and artistic action experienceable and understandable in terms of educational theory, and to advocate for a sustainable anchoring of cultural education in schools.
