Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology studies the relationship between people and their culture, examining the influences of time, region, social milieu, age, and gender on social and cultural conditions. Students gain an overview of various cultural theories and learn about their own and other societies. The program teaches theoretical and practical approaches to cultural studies questions, conducting research (e.g., historical source work in archives, ethnographic observations, interviews, surveys, and social media surveys), and interpreting data. The study program at JGU is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach, uniquely combining content from film, theater, media, and cultural studies with cultural anthropology/European ethnology. Students receive close supervision from lecturers and benefit from a strong practical orientation with excursions and contacts with partners outside the university in the Rhine-Main area and beyond.
