Computer Science

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

The Bachelor's program in Computer Science provides a broad and well-founded basic knowledge in the areas of practical computer science (e.g., programming and software engineering), technical computer science (e.g., computer architecture and embedded systems), and theoretical computer science (e.g., automata theory and computability). Computer Science students can freely choose two subjects from the entire technical range of TUHH, giving their studies an individual profile. Furthermore, in-depth knowledge in mathematics is acquired. Students gain a solid understanding of mathematical methods in computer science, how such methods are algorithmically implemented in the form of software and implemented by a computer's hardware, and how to assess the efficiency of a computing system. Basic knowledge in business administration and non-technical subjects is also acquired, increasing the competencies for managing entrepreneurial processes. The Bachelor's program prepares students for subsequent Master's studies and ultimately for a doctorate, so that possible career profiles in research are also prepared by the Bachelor's degree. The program starts with fundamentals in mathematics, computer science, and programming. Later, students can specialize in 'Computer and Software Engineering' as well as 'Mathematics and Engineering Sciences'. Practical experience in software development is gained through software practicals. The fifth semester can also be used as a semester abroad. Examples of specialization areas include Computer Geometry, Statistics, Scientific Programming, Quantum Computing, Embedded Systems, Machine Learning, and Software Development.
