About the Program

The Computer Linguistics degree program allows you to combine two essential areas of interest for the modern world: language/linguistics and computer science. At FAU, students focus predominantly on the technical and practical aspects of machine language processing. Computational linguistics researches the processing of human language and develops computer models to understand, produce and learn language. For this purpose, theories and methods from computer science, linguistics, and cognitive science are used, and fundamentals from mathematics, such as formal logic or statistics, are applied. The study includes foundations of computer linguistics, tools and techniques, foundations of computer science, conceptual modeling, database systems, multimedia technology, and machine language processing.
