Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The 2-subject Bachelor's program in Communication Studies guides students to develop a scientific approach to communication processes. The study includes theoretical foundations, application-oriented and practical teaching and learning fields. Students learn to critically classify communication science findings and apply communication-related methods and knowledge appropriately to problems. They understand the communication process as a multimodal and holistically situated event, regardless of whether it takes place in face-to-face situations or through modern communication technologies. Upon completion of the program, students have the professional knowledge and methodological skills that enable them to describe and analyze both the prerequisites and the basic structural and functional characteristics of communicative processes. A practical module enables students to be involved early in current application-oriented research and in profession-related problems. The practical module also offers the option of crediting an internship. In addition to the practical module, the project seminars in the advanced modules 'Communication - Interaction - Language', 'Communication - Knowledge - Action', 'Communication - Institution - Society' and 'Communication - Media - Technology' contribute to individual career orientation and the acquisition of specific key qualifications.
