About the Program

The Master's degree programme 'Communication & Design for Sustainability' focuses on how to shape the future sustainably and communicate transformations. Students learn to recognize transformation potential, design solutions, and communicate them for companies, institutions, society, and politics. The program uniquely combines a topical mindset with critical theory and practical application, teaching students to design transformation processes transparently and communicate them with stakeholder involvement. The curriculum covers design theory, sustainability communication, alternative economic models, transformation models, media production, design futuring, and design fiction. The program follows an inter- and transdisciplinary approach combining economics, design science, communication, and social sciences. It is structured over three semesters: the first covering fundamentals of sustainable economic models and communication; the second focusing on analysis and conceptualization; and the third developing strategic measures for design and communication projects, concluding with a master's thesis.
