About the Program

The Master of Arts in Classical Archaeology furthers your understanding of Mediterranean cultures of Classical Antiquity as well as temporally and geographically contiguous cultures. The primary focus is on the problem-oriented understanding of research questions related to art and cultural history. For this purpose, the curriculum also draws on knowledge and insight from related disciplines such as ancient history, ancient philology, historical geography, Egyptology, prehistory and ancient civilizations, and art history. A wide variety of collections of ancient relics lends a practical element to the study programme. In addition, students can assist with exhibits in local museums, the university library, and special events (Museum night, excavations and university classes for children, and more). Graduates have a number of interesting career opportunities, including at academic institutions, libraries, museums, archives, adult education, tourism, media, and private companies (such as excavation firms).
