Biotechnical Chemistry

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

Biotechnical chemistry deals with the chemistry of living nature and its application in biotechnology. The focus is on the discovery, identification, synthesis, metabolization and mechanism of action of biologically active compounds. The Master's degree course in Biotechnical Chemistry has a modular structure. The course is divided into a one-year specialization phase and a one-year research phase. The first year focuses on in-depth lectures on modern areas of bioinorganic and bioorganic chemistry, in which students are introduced to the current state of research. The teaching content is supplemented by corresponding practical courses, which can also be carried out in the working groups. Furthermore, the basics of microreaction technology, nanotechnology and quantum chemistry are taught. Applicants are expected to already have a very good basic knowledge of chemistry and biotechnology and a good knowledge of biochemistry and physics, and familiarity with the thinking and working methods of chemists is a prerequisite.
